Sustainability at Eisberg Austria
We are pushing the procurement of regional, certified raw materials and are pursuing needs-based procurement and production. This enables us to use the channels of our supply chain efficiently. We also take measures to save food and support regional stakeholders with donations in kind and in cash. See for yourself:
- The commissioning of the plant in 2019 and the elimination of transport for finished products from Italy to Austria have already enabled the saving of numerous transport kilometres. This significant reduction in lorry mileage results in a direct and lasting saving of fuel (diesel) in our supply chain.
- Our plant uses an EU-funded cooling system, which is operated exclusively with natural refrigerants. Natural refrigerants, unlike synthetic alternatives, have no or extremely low global warming potential (GWP).
We use our own well system and treat our operational wastewater directly on site via a physical preliminary purification, grease separator and a fully-automatic flotation unit. In addition, we use EDTA-free alkaline cleaning agents. By carrying out targeted pre-cleaning, we minimize the pollutant load in the wastewater. This relieves the public sewer system. - We continuously optimize both primary (direct contact with the product) and secondary packaging (transport cartons). The reduced use of materials conserves valuable raw materials, lowers the overall weight of transports, and reduces the amount of packaging for end users and retailers.
